London Fashion Week - SS18

In an age of influencers, bloggers and social media, personal styling has become a feature of London Fashion Week. Photographers line the street outside venues hosting shows, eagerly anticipating the guests, wearing the most creative street style to arrive. 

This season's Fashion Week was very special as we managed to see some shows and presentations at Fashion Scout. 

Fashion scout is an international showcase for international pioneers. FS is responsible for the launch of a whole new generation of talented designers, including Peter Pilotto, Felder Felder, David Koma, Eudon Choi, Pam Hogg, Fyodor Golan and many more. 

Along side the brightest British talents, Fashion Scout provide unrivalled platforms for industry selected international designer and collective showcase including those from China, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Asia 

GLOBELLE BY NELLY ROSE

Founded by Nelly Rose, Globelle captures London's dynamic D.I.Y aesthetic, which is interwoven into traditional textile craft, from a particular country of alliance. Resulting in artisanal womenwear pieces that are infused with her signature graphic style and incorporate elements of artisanal textile. 

By travelling to the origin, Nelly Rose works to center artisan communities, by showcasing their uniquely individual techniques, Globelle supports and advocates a female solidarity, and unity. To bring out journey back home we will unveil Globelle;s story through a series of print zines and ongoing workshops. 

 PAM HOGG 

Superstar Scottish designer Pam Hogg stunned as usual at London Fashion Week for Fashion Scout, with a collection that showcased her skill for innovation by managing to wow the throng gathered in the Freemason’s Hall. The collection was perhaps more light-hearted and playful than her previous shows and drew from a range of unusual influences. In a nod to recent beauty trends, each model wore a bold lip and an exaggerated stripe of bright eyeshadow extending above the eyebrow.

BILLIE JACOBINA 

Billie Jacobina is a printed textiles based brand, directed by Bille Jacobina herself. Adding traditional techniques into fashion, by making them contemporary, the brand attempts to break boundaries within the textiles industry, bringing Billie's dream and fantasies alive through her garments. 

After graduating from UCA Rochester and wowing industry professionals at graduate fashion week 2016, Billie won the graduate Fashion Week residency award, where she had the opportunity to work on a collaborative collection with Indonesian designer brand Lekat. 

The best part of this presentation: there were fishnet tights in all the shades of pink and white.  Fishnet overload! 

 ROBERTA EINER 

Think  Venice beach in California. Think skater, surfer or LA girl. That’s what Roberta Einer’s SS18 collection was all about. It was a mix of 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s California slogan fashion at Einer’s presentation at the old Central Saint Martin’s building, the designer’s alma mater.

A look Glass knows will worn by all the cool girls is the embodied letterman jacket. The jacket has a leather pastel pink sleeves and a baby blue felt body. Adorning the jacket is beading work creating a California sunset with palm trees, a surfboard and the slogan No Unlocals. Matching the other beading work on the garment, the model also wears tiny blue sequin shorts with similar beading from the jacket in a dark colour.

One stand-out look was the blue layered, net dress. The knee-length skater dress was decorated with red, pale pink and green leather flowers, palm trees and beads. The V neck cut was accompanied with silk, blue ribbon bows at the shoulders. Similarly, there was black, shoulder bow dress which had orange, blue, black, pink and peach sequins arranged in random yet thoughtfully placed around the dress. The palm leaf motif was seen on the garment in a different but familiar way. The model also wore knee-high sequin socks.

The designer also collaborated with Vans to create her own trainers to go alongside her collection. The white high-tops allowed for the perfect blank canvas. The trainers were embellished with patches of pretty delicate colours, beadings and stitching.  The mellow purple trainers coincided with the collection making us want more glitter and sequins in our wardrobe.

During London Fashion Week, we often get to glimpse more daring looks and it  never fails to deliver when it comes to sourcing the next season's wardrobe inspiration from the fashion army.
